Our Preschool Program
Our curriculum is the Creative Curriculum which aligns with the NYS Early Learning Guidelines which is the preferred curriculum for all NYS UPK programs. What does that mean? It means your child will learn the necessities of life through hands on, developmentally appropriate activities. Sounds great! But what does that mean?
It means your child is learning first how to socialize, how to communicate their wants / needs by using their words, learning how to take turns, how to be in a group setting, and working together on common goals (TEAM WORK!). It means your child will not be sitting for long periods of time completing workbooks or staring at flashcards to learn their alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and common skills. So how do they learn?
Your child will learn LANGUAGE and LITERACY skills as we converse throughout the day, read books, and are surrounded by a print enriched environment. Your child will learn the sounds of letters by reading them via conversations, thru books on tapes, singing songs, and playing games.
Your child will learn MATH concepts as we count the number of friends at school, how many blocks we've used to build, how many plates / cups we nee during meals, grouping items together, and learning how many sides each shape has.
SCIENCE knowledge will flourish as we learn about trial and error, explore properties of sand, water , dirt , ice, snow, plant seeds, watch the trees and flowers bloom, and perform simple experiments such as making flubber, blowing bubbles, and cooking.
PHYSICS comes into play a lot in preschool as children learn to stabilize blocks, books, and other manipulatives as well as themselves in our indoor gym and outdoor play areas.
SOCIAL STUDIES concepts will be learned during free play when the children mimic what they see and hear in the community and the world around them. They figure out how things work and how to clean up their messes as best they can and learn to be more independent. Still want to know if your child will be learning and will he/she be ready for Kindergarten? The answer is YES!! They will be more than ready!!
